Ombak Rindu: Malaysian Film Industry Can Be Proud Again

fuhh. there has been a lot of buzz surrounding Ombak Rindu. mula mula aku agak skeptical sikit sebab ya la, sinca the passing of Arwah Yasmin Ahmad, filem Melayu has been a complete piece of shit. but the buzz getting stronger, so aku decided pi check out the trailer. memang best la trailer dia, but as typical filem Melayu, trailer best gila tapi movie sangat nda best macam album Lady GaGa yang baru neh. tapi kemarin ada orang post link full movie Ombak Rindu di Youtube, and TeamHanna pun ada kasi link download. aku boring boring di lebri, then decided untuk download movie tu. what to lose? if the movie is good, then i can say i had a great time watching it. if it is otherwise, it just add to another reason why i don't support our local film industry. so, after download, i decided to watch it last night with my roomates.

and it was so FUCKING good.

ini pendapat aku la. aku bukan film critic ka apa, just a simple viewer yang ada pendapat sendiri. bagi aku, sudah lama filem Melayu nda deliver a piece as strong as this one. credit to the writer of the novel for bringing one of the strongest emotional piece since Talentime. jalan cerita dia OK jugaj la, walau pun panjang and kadang kadang rasa macam boring, but all in all it was a good movie. yang bestnya movie ne was not trying to get you cry, but simply playing with your emotions. ada tiga penjuru perasaan yang boleh diselami, perasaan lelaki yang jatuh cinta dengan orang yang dia rasa nda sepatutnya, perasaan perempuan yang jatuh cinta dengan "pemiliknya", and most of all, persaan perempuan yang cinta dengan orang yang didn't feel the same way (which i think most of us can relate).

but what's a strong story line without a strong pack of actors to deliver the message and emotions behind the story? well, the three biggest film stars of nowadays (Aaron, Lisa, Maya) simply proved to the people that they are not only the biggest movie stars, but they are also the strongest and best. ketiga tiga pelakon ne compliment each other, no one steal anyone's spotlight, which make the story so relate-able.

the ring -leader, the center of the story - Maya Karin - delivered what is believed to be the BEST performance of her career. the combination of fragile and soft, plus the radiant beauty that she portrays, brings the character of perempuan kampong in such a believable kinda way. damn! mesti ramai perempuan jeles tinguk Maya tetap cantek walau pun nda pakai make-up.

then come to the king of Malay screen, Aaron Aziz. huh. memang best gila mamat ne berlakon dalam ne. pretty convincing especially bila dia berlagak macam shit. the performance is strong, and suited her good looking look. and yang paling best, biar ganas macamana, biar lagak macamana, Harris tetap lemah dalam genggaman Izzah. LOL.

then there is Lisa Surihani. what else to say? she has always been a great actress. memang best tinguk Lisa berlakon dalam emotional piece macam ni. she did a good job at Sekali Lagi and Lagenda Budak Setan (although those movies are crap). she never failed to deliver, especially when she has to get mad.

all in all, it was a great movie, worth to spend time to watch. but, movie ni bukan untuk semua orang la aku cakap. for those who are not ready to be slayed emotionally then don't watch this movie. i am literally shaking and crying watching this movie coz it was so damn good. so, it is a good sign - showing that industri filem kita nda perlukan kumpulan gangster yang sangat mengarut and nda bleh blah, nda perlukan sex scene yang awkward and klip 3gp, nda perlukan aksi hantam menghantam kunun kunun dorang ada amek class martial art time kecik, and don't simply need Farid Kamil and Syamsul Yusof to be in it to make a good movie. huh. Yasmin Ahmad will be so proud.

damn. now Lisa Surihani will be so ashamed that she did Lagenda Budak Setan.

to celebrate the awesomeness of this movie, here are some of the memorable moments which i think standout:-

1. Comel. haha. adeh laa. sangat yakin kasik nama kucing begitu. kalau aku tu kucing pun aku lari dari rumah sebab that name is so hideous. cubak kasik nama macam Justin ka, Selena ka, atau pun GaGa. well at least calling it GaGa will do justice to the singer.

2. scene tukar jam lepas nikah + baring di dada time Harris tidur. a simple scene, btu delivered yet so much. romantik gila time ne. nda payah cakap berbunga - bunga, just a simple body gesture.

3. dressing anak kampung. ni yang paling aku nda paham. tau la si Izzah tu orang kampung. tapi agak agak la jugak dressing dia. macam Opah dari kampung plak aku tinguk. orang kampung pun tau sudah dress ba, sudah maju jua ba. sedangkan orang kampung pun ada video blue sendiri, ne kan pla dressing. this was such and EPIC fail.

4. Lisa a.k.a Mila arrival at airport. disgusting hair styles, disgusting parents (what's with her mother's makeup?) and most of all, so not-convincing reporter. kenapa nda pakai Karam Singh Walia?

5. Izzah nangis depan TV time reporter cakap pasal perkahwinan Harris ngan Mila. Maya delivered one of the strongest silent-acting emotional deliverance ever. simply by looking at that scene, we all feel how hurt she is knowing her husband is going to fuck another girl and she will stuck in her house alone finger-fucking her cat. kidding.

6. Lisa looks like Selena Gomez.

7. Bront Pallare (macam ndada guna ja watak dia ni di kasik wujud) deliver some of the best line ever! "orang paling hensem di kampung ni pun kau tolak mentahmentah!" & "rumah tu da lama kosong, macam aku jugak."

8. best selection of soundtrack. btul btul bantu kasi nangis orang lagu dorang ne.

9. Mila simpan tiket wayang yang dia ngan Harris pi tinguk dari dulu. so fucking romantic.

10. the most unconvincing accident scene ever! kereta dia bukan ada pa pa pun, termasuk sikit ja pi parit tu. sama jua macam bas TUT masuk aprit di UMS. tapi trus la si Harris nda stabil, sampai koma. baru paling lucu, si Maya Karin tu macam ndada adab pi lawat husband dia, orang pakai neck brace dia pi rangkul lagi leher dia. sangat buduh.

11. Mak Harris - the most outrageous fashionista in the movie. macam macam jua dressing dia ne. sudah tu, rambut bukan main laie. i think 30% of the whole budget for this movie goes to her wardrobe only. pitty, they pay so much money just to make her look like a complete piece of shit with a worn-put pussy.

12. scene di hospital between Izzah ngan Mak JAh - a complete tear jerker. roomate aku yang jantan pun kluar air mata. the best thing is, we can see even though Izzah was hurt by the action of his fuckingly annoying husband, she is so very happy to know that her baby is alright. the love of a mother.

13. Pak Dollah drop the bomb: Harris is my son. aha. time ne Pak Dollah jadi starring.

14. redha tu ikhlas. pasrah tu menyerah. AWESOME.
